9 Black Pound Day Brands To Bookmark Today

Ahead of the second anniversary of the Black Pound Day initiative, launched on June 27th 2020, we wanted to shine the spotlight on just some of the brands that find themselves in our shopping basket time and time again.

Black Pound Day (BPD) - founded by Swiss of UK music group, So Solid Crew - is a monthly event designed to support the growth of the black economy. Here at La Basketry, we have received an incredible amount of support through the initiative and it has been an amazing feeling to see so many people unite to share support, not just through their purchases but through engagement on social media too.

Following its incredibly successful pop-up shop in Westfield London last year, BPD are now opening a permanent store in the shopping centre. What an incredible achievement!

Bespoke Binny is a British based business offering a range of handmade homeware and gifts items made from West African cloth. The birth child of Natalie Manima, Bespoke Binny's products range from pillows, lampshades, aprons, oven gloves, table runners and card holders.



Our Lovely Goods


From fragrance to homeware, lifestyle products and more, Our Lovely Goods was founded by Ebi and Emmanuel Sinteh, with an ethos of celebrating “the feeling of home”. The common thread running through the brand is the couple's Nigerian heritage, drawing inspiration from family gatherings, sharing food, music and a laid-back approach to life.


Prick

Prick is London’s first boutique dedicated to cacti and other succulents, founded by Gynelle Leon. Based in Dalston, East London, the store offers a carefully curated selection of unusual and exotic plants sourced from across the UK and Europe. Alongside plants, you’ll find pots, accessories, books and Prick merchandise.

Sancho’s

Sancho's was born from a wish to see the best sustainable, slow, and artisan brands under one roof to make it easy for people to make a difference as they shop. Founded in 2015, Sancho's offers a plethora of affordable organic clothing brands including Baxter Wood, People Tree, Girlfriend Collective (pictured), Nkuku and more.


BixiePots

A staple in our beauty cabinet, BixiePots offers a range of grade-A organic whipped Shea Butters, as well as body and face oils for the ultimate glow. Expect scents such as citrus, cranberry and orange, cinnamon spice, and lavender, as well as the brand's classic, unscented for everyday use.


Chalk Jewellery

Chalk is a London-based design studio, founded by architect Malaika Carr, offering unusual, geometric, wearable jewellery pieces. According to Carr, Chalk’s collections are influenced by architectural elements, everyday objects and bold, colourful, cultural patterns. All pieces are handcrafted by Carr in-house.

If we told you we have every single Maya Njie fragrance at home, would you believe us? It’s the truth and that’s because this brand creates the most beautiful scents we’ve experienced, blending both Swedish and West African culture. Born in Västerås Sweden, founder of the eponymous brand, Njie, moved to London in her late teens and went on to study surface design and photography, before launching the fragrance brand in 2016. All perfumes are vegan, and are developed in-house.
